I put together a collection of some of my best salads, suitable for the Memorial Day weekend. Here you will find a variety of recipes to make for that barbecue, picnic, or gathering this weekend.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed on the last Monday of May, that honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
However, this day is also the unofficial start of summer for many Americans. Because it is a long weekend, people take advantage of this extra time to spend it with family and friends, sharing a meal.
There are cookouts, picnics, gatherings, and always good food. Grilled food, delicious side dishes, and great company are some of the things we all enjoy. There is something special about eating outside in the warm weather, right?
Best Memorial Day Salads
There is no barbecue, picnic, or gathering during the summer without a good potato salad. However, there are more amazing salads to choose from, and here is where my collection of summer salads comes into place.
I put it together, to make your life easier so you don't have to dig through my site for different ideas. Here you have them all together.
The choices are good and you might end up making a few of them or pin them for later use. After all, summer is at least three months long and there is plenty of time to try a few of these salads.
Tips for serving food outside and keeping your family and friends safe:
Keeping your family and friends safe when you organize a cookout is very important. Here are some tips:
- Salads made with mayonnaise should not be kept in the heat for more than two hours. These salads need to be refrigerated. The best advice is to fill a large container with ice and place the salad bowls on top of the ice to keep them cool. Another idea is to keep the food in a cooler until you serve it.
- Don't forget to pack serving spoons for these salads. Pack some extra ones, in case someone drops them on the ground or they get misplaced.
- Keep meats separate from other foods.
- Leftovers need to be consumed as soon as possible and kept in the refrigerator at all times. Discard them after two days.
